We loved everything what is vegan on the menu. Literally everything, you won't make a mistake with this place, it was simply delicious. Vegan Po-boy, vegan crab cakes (the remulade is awesome), vegan soul plate (crispy and juicy oyster mushrooms, yummy creamy beans, and collard greens), and vegan potato salad. The owners are vegan, so you get a food with vibe that somebody really cared about it. The staff is very friendly and attentive, thank you and see you next time!
My husband and I both got soul plates with Mac and cheese and potato salad. I also ordered a side of fries for my son. The chicken was our favorite part and we both gave it like a 8/10 it was very fresh, crispy, and seasoned well. The mac & cheese was just OK as we both thought it was a little dry and could have been creamier so we gave it a 6.5/10. The potato salad, we both didn’t really like as we were expecting traditional southern deviled egg, potato salad so I’d say a 4/10. The french fries are steak fries and were seasoned well so I’d say a 8/10. Overall, the highlight for our visit would have to be the great service from the chef and the chicken. I would definitely go back and try more things
The mushrooms in my vegan po’boy were incredibly tasty. The sauce was also very tasty. The rest of the po’boy was pretty basic but I don’t care for hot dog buns. Probably my least enjoyed bread type. Husband ordered the omnivore soul plate and was very pleased after being sus of the restaurant. There was nobody else there when we arrived. It almost didn’t even seem open. The vibe was just kind of weird. The staff is super friendly though so we decided to stay anyway and give it a shot. Glad we did!
Review from my teenaged nephew: Amazing food! Yum-yum for my tum-tum!! This place has the best fried chicken sandwich in multiverse. Nice staff too. :)
Run, don't walk, to get you some of this food. The fried chicken made me start praise dancing, but the hot crackling mac sent me to heaven. Everything we tried was hot, seasoned to perfection, and infused with so much soul and love. The customer service was on point as well. The chef and staff made sure we were well taken care of. Southern hospitality meets Santa Barbara beauty all right here. Y'all better not miss out!
The best southern comfort I have ever had, and I have been to New Orleans. This food was what I call stop me food. Every bite made me stop, close my eyes, and just enjoy what I was experiencing. I got some fried chicken, chips (or JoJos), and Mac and cheese. The chicken was crispy and juicy at the same time and the seasoning was like Cajun seasoning but on another level. The chips were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and were seasoned to perfection. The Mac and cheese was the best I had ever had. They also make their own hot sauce and it was so good I asked to get some extras to be able to take home. I got to spend some time talking to the owners and hearing their story. They were so sweet and we were very accommodating. The atmosphere of the space was very much like hole in the wall which I love. It is very unassuming but and has so much potential. I love a good spot that just feels like you found a hidden gem which is definitely what we found. If you live in Santa Barbara and havent been to Soul Bites you gotta check it out.
While looking for soup on a chilly night in SB, the web browser popped up Soul Bites. Not one to question fate, I took the Spirit's prompting. I saw the shrimp and grits(my favorite) with gravy and knew it would be great. The taste exceeded my expectations, which are high. I chat with the owners who are super nice people. I love their vision and mission for their space. Santa Barbara is lucky to have them. I took the banana pudding to go and let me tell you, it is delightful. There's a hint of something that is familiar. I will come back and try the fried chicken because the smell wafting in the space let's me know what a treat it will be.
I first time tried the korean cuisine. Its definitely worth a try. Restaurant atmoshpere is great. However, for some reason i didn't like the automated phone ordering system. I like to interact with the person taking my order. Specially if i am somewhere for the first time. We ended up ordering an entree without knowing the spice level and it was extremely hot. But it was good though. I suggest to go to the counter for any questions you may have. Will definitely gp again.
